Ko?n

KoRn, the pioneers of nu-metal in the early 90s and certified show stealers ever since, began their career as the Bakersfield, CA-based metal band LAPD, which included guitarists James “Munky” Shaffer and Brian “Head” Welch, bassist Reginald “Fieldy Snuts” Arvizu, and drummer David Silveria. After issuing an LP, the members of LAPD in 1993 crossed paths with Jonathan Davis, a mortuary science student moonlighting as the lead vocalist for the local group Sexart. They soon asked Davis to join the band, and upon his arrival the quintet rechristened itself Korn. Korn’s cathartic alternative metal sound positioned the group among the most popular and provocative to emerge during the post-grunge era. They championed the musical stance of the nu-metal genre before it even existed.

Social Distortion

Social Distortion is an American rock band formed in 1978 in Fullerton, California and often credited as one of the leading bands of the 1980s hardcore punk explosion in the US.

The band has overcome numerous personnel shifts, the demise of the Los Angeles hardcore scene that spawned them, and the heroin addiction of singer/guitarist Mike Ness to achieve a certain degree of mainstream success. Ness formed the group in 1978 with drummer Casey Royer and brothers Frank (bass) and Rikk Agnew (guitar). When the brothers left to join the Adolescents, Ness’ schoolmate Dennis Danell joined on bass; the next few years saw members come and go.

Social D recorded its debut album, ‘Mommy’s Little Monster’, a significant few years after the band originally formed in 1983. The band then took four years to record a follow-up, as Ness descended into heroin addiction and latched onto a self-destructive streak. Ness finally sorted himself out and regrouped in 1988 with John Maurer on bass and Chris Reece on drums. This lineup recorded ‘Prison Bound’, a mature album broadening Social Distortion’s sound with elements of country added into the rock mix.

Battling through line-up changes and re-inventing his band in between the odd hiatus and downward spiral, Ness has kept Social Distortion very much alive and he’s managed to make history in the music world in the process with legendary songwriting and performances.

We Are Scientists

2005 was a great year for We Are Scientists. Virgin Records asked us to break these guys through the internet and get them up and running as they were unheard of at the time.

With our online pr campaign behind them and various skatepark marketing campaigns throughout the year, the band began to become well known and eventually broke with their single ‘Nobody Move, Nobody Get Hurt‘ appearing on the radio and TV to fuel sales of debut album ‘With Love And Squalor‘.

This was our first ever major label campaign and has been a benchmark for breaking new artists on our roster since. Since this campaign Virgin are one of our main clients and we work with them monthly on various acts you will find on this site.

The Charlatans

The Charlatans are one of the UK’s most credible indie bands so it was not a hard decision to accept the offer to work their online pr campaign for ‘Forever. The Singles‘ released on DVD and CD in November 2006 through Island Records.

This campaign was fuelled by a full UK tour and TV advertising allowing us to seed the videos, CD and DVD reviews, live reviews, interviews and much more. The end result was a fantastic online campaign for one of the UK’s most favourite acts.

Calvin Harris

Calvin Harris (born Adam Richard Wiles on 17 January 1984 in Dumfries, Scotland) is a Scottish electronic musician, singer-songwriter and record producer. His gold-selling debut album, ‘I Created Disco’, was released in 2007 and contained the Top 10 singles “Acceptable in the 80s” and “The Girls”. He has written and produced records for other recording artists including Kylie Minogue and created a number 1 smash hit with British rapper Dizzee Rascal – “Dance Wiv Me”.

His second studio album ‘Ready for the Weekend’ was released on 17 August 2009 and reached number 1 in the UK Album Charts on 23 August. It contains the number 1 single “I’m Not Alone” the UK Top 5 Single “Ready for the Weekend”, which was released on 10 August and the track “Flashback” which was released as the third single from the album on 2 November.

Mark Ronson

You know that a producer has become a star in his own right when he’s given a contract to put out an album under his own name. In 2006, Mark Ronson is the man behind much of the two best British pop albums of the year – Lily Allen’s ‘Alright, Still’ and Amy Winehouse’s ‘Back to Black’. Ronson had been active in the N.Y.C. and London DJ scenes long before this, and had even released an album called ‘Here Comes the Fuzz’ in 2003 that featured a wide range of talent — from Ghostface Killah and Mos Def to Rivers Cuomo, Jack White, and Saturday Night Live comedian Jimmy Fallon — to front tracks he crafted.

Ronson took up where he left off with second album ‘Version’, but this record focused very much on the UK, bringing in Lily and Amy and many other modern Brit stars to sing over his chosen tracks. This time around, Ronson was actually playing around with contemporary British pop classics and modern hits, ranging from the Jam’s “Pretty Green” to Maxïmo Park’s “Apply Some Pressure.” Ronson’s put his slant on every one, turning them into splashy, clever blends of old-school hip-hop, ’60s soul, postmodern pop, and classic kitsch. A whirlpool of styles on a wide range of cherry-picked tracks that results in a polished but likable full-length. Ronson even injects some humor into Coldplay by turning “God Put a Smile Upon Your Face” into an instrumental fueled by horns. Radiohead’s “Just” (here sung by Phantom Planet) is treated similarly and the Smiths’ “Stop Me If You Think You’ve Heard This One Before” is turned into a soul medley with the Supremes’ “You Keep Me Hangin’ On” as sung by Daniel Merriweather. The album has propelled Mark Ronson to celebrity stardom, akin to the recognition those acts he’s worked with behind the scenes have achieved. Lily Allen and Amy Winehouse, eat your heart out.

Gallows

Division started work with Watford quintet Gallows in the run up to the release of their debut album on highly-respected independent punk/hardcore/metal label In At The Deep End back in August of 2006.

The album and band’s incredible life performances quickly caught the attention of the rock media and Kerrang!’s editor Paul Brannigan bravely stuck his neck out and put the band on the cover in early January, creating unprecedented interest and enthusiasm for this abrasive band. Word quickly spread and magazines such as NME, Front, i.D. and The Observer Music Monthly were joining the likes of Metal Hammer, Rock Sound, Big Cheese and, of course, Kerrang! by extensively covering the band.

There’s no denying that Gallows are one of the hottest rock bands in the country right now. You can find them at www.myspace.com/gallows
