MGMT

New York’s pyschedelic-indie warlords MGMT are being hotly-tipped for 2008. It’s no surprise though as their debut album ‘Oracular Spectacular‘ produced by the helping hand of David Fridmann (Flaming Lips, Mercury Rev) is destined to be one of the most talked about records of the year and released in March via Sony/Columbia.

The songwriting duo of guitar/vocalist Andrew VanWyngarden and keyboardist Ben Goldwasser is a unique combination that mixes psychedelia with rock and indie on a scale that can only be described as ‘off the ricta’. Their songs are beautiful, mesmeric and catchy and have the perfect blend for ears that are only tuned into amazing music.

The proof is in the pudding and with single ‘Time to Pretend‘ scheduled for February and the album in March, we will see how MGMT mania spreads once it is unleashed to the UK’s indie fraternity. But with tips already announced from Spin, Rolling Stone, NME and BBC, expect this record to be banging on your door throughout 2008.
